In 2022, tourism in Harghita County showed a significant recovery, after the pandemic had strongly reduced visitor numbers in previous years. During the year, 201,450 tourists arrived in the county, spending a total of 443,704 overnight stays in local accommodation establishments.
The tourism season was once again strongest during the summer months, when the county’s natural attractions, resorts, and cultural events attracted many visitors. At the same time, spring and autumn also recorded a relatively active tourist flow, indicating the gradual stabilization of tourism.
According to statistical data, 2022 brought a notable increase compared to 2021. The number of tourists grew by 18.91%, while the number of overnight stays increased by 21.03%, reflecting a strong post-pandemic recovery of tourism.
The more than 440 thousand overnight stays demonstrate that the region’s tourism appeal remains strong. Mountain landscapes, spa resorts, and a rich cultural and gastronomic offer rooted in local traditions all contribute to making Harghita County an increasingly popular destination for visitors.
